The study “Mitigation and Adaptation Measures to Climate Change in the Economic Activity Parks of Baix Empordà” begins.

Pioneering Plan to Promote Sustainability in Industrial Parks

The Technical Support Office for Industrial Parks, in collaboration with the Sustainability and Climate Action department of the Baix Empordà County Council, is promoting the Action Plan “Mitigation and Adaptation Measures to Climate Change in the Economic Activity Parks of Baix Empordà.”

This is a pioneering study aimed at identifying and planning high-value sustainable actions in the economic activity parks of five municipalities in the region.

Key challenges highlighted include:

  • Improving sustainable accessibility by creating optimal routes for zero-emission vehicles.

  • Implementing green infrastructure to reduce the effects of heat islands, which are very common in industrial areas.

  • Installing photovoltaic pergolas in parking lots, using rooftops to generate clean energy.

  • Incorporating photovoltaic systems in public facilities as a first step toward creating energy communities.

  • Studying strategic points for the installation of electric vehicle chargers.

The ultimate goal is to produce reference documents for municipalities, providing detailed information on locations, costs, feasibility, and financing options to facilitate the implementation of these improvements in economic activity areas.

The initiative highlights the importance of caring for and humanizing the industrial spaces of Baix Empordà, a key factor both for the balance of productive sectors and for people’s quality of life.

This project is co-financed by the Girona Provincial Council and involves the technical participation of the Strategic Plan of the municipalities of La Bisbal d’Empordà, Forallac, Corçà, Cruïlles, Monells i Sant Sadurní de l’Heura, and Ullastret. One of the key interlocutors in the territory has been the Ei Empordà Business Association, which shared its views on the actions it considers strategic and a priority.

The study is expected to be available before the end of the year for the parks in Corçà and Forallac, and for the parks in La Bisbal d’Empordà—the latter fully financed by the municipality itself.
