Two grants are requested to strengthen agri-food companies and entrepreneurs

Within the framework of the strategic plan and for infrastructures located in industrial estates

During the month of January, work was carried out to present two projects for agri-food infrastructures within the framework of the PEAC (Strategic Food Plan of Catalonia) and Girona Provincial Council grants.

On the one hand, a grant was presented for the drafting of a project for the reopening of the old eco-slaughterhouse on C/Paral.lel in La Bisbal d'Empordà.

The objectives sought with the start-up of the slaughterhouse are:

Offering a local service to livestock farmers in the Empordà and surrounding areas to slaughter animals, avoiding transfers to large and distant slaughterhouses and reducing transport costs.

Promoting environmental sustainability: reducing the distances travelled by livestock farmers to transport their animals, reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) derived from transport. This contributes directly to the reduction of the carbon footprint of the meat production chain.
Help small producers to offer quality products and greater traceability: Promote local production with local certification, responding to the growing demand from consumers for quality meat from short circuits, "km 0" or organic products. All this, with the maximum possible transparency.
Offer quality products: Promote local production with local certification, responding to the growing demand from consumers for quality meat, short circuits, "km 0" or organic products.
Support the local economy by creating jobs and stimulating the short marketing chain by favoring butchers, restaurants, shops and local distributors and those in the area of influence.
Improve animal welfare: Avoid long journeys to reduce animal stress and offer a better final product to the consumer.

Specifically, the objectives of the prospecting process are as follows:
1. Collect information and analyze the real and potential demand for the slaughterhouse service in its territory of influence.
2. Evaluate the technical, economic and governance system viability of the slaughterhouse.

At this time, the resolution is awaited.

On the other hand, within the framework of the aid from the Girona Provincial Council, an application for aid has been submitted for a study that detects agri-food producers with the need and availability to be able to offer some type of transformed product or aimed at the final consumer to determine the potential need to launch a shared workshop proposal for the transformation and/or manipulation of basic products.

The work will consist of prospecting agricultural producers and processors of plant products, characterizing the farms and potential processors based on their orientation, production capacity, transformation needs, determining the characteristics of the necessary facilities and willingness to integrate into a shared workshop infrastructure project.

Finally, the data will be managed, monitored and concluded to analyze the results obtained, issuing a final report of the prospecting phase. A proposal for the definition of a possible shared workshop will also be obtained, if applicable, with determination of the dimensions, types of spaces, common and specific services, required equipment and a proposal for the possible management model, with a joint analysis with the promoting administration of the potential location, based on which an economic assessment can be proposed to address the investment.

This shared workshop would be installed in the Nexes business incubator in Forallac
